Nepal is one of the countries in the world with the most national public holidays. One of them is the holi fest, a colourful religious Hindu festival that marks the beginning of spring and celebrates the victory of good over evil. Holi fest bridges social gaps and brings people together: young and old, rich and poor, men and women.

In most places during Holi, people go wild in the streets and throw water and coloured powders on each other. In the little mountain village where I stayed, the festivities were more intimate. Everybody gathered together and was singing and dancing. The men were playing their instruments till late in the evening. Early next morning offerings were made to the gods.
