Dance the pain away

After cyclone Idai in Mozambique

What would you do after a cyclone wipes away your houses, some of your dear ones, and leaves you with trauma and emptiness?

Beira is the coastal town in Mozambique that was ravaged by Cyclone Idai in March 2019. Despite the destruction this caused, Mozambicans keep on swinging. Marrabenta, Pandza, and Kizomba beats continue even under plastic sheeting or corrugated iron.
"Dancing is the energy of life. Being together and having fun is key to dealing with the traumas we all have."

Shared cultural practices help people cope with disaster; the act of being together, in motion, in joy or in remembrance, becomes a human balm.
