SHOULD I STAY, OR SHOULD I GO?

Senegal

Is the grass greener on the other side? Which decision would you make? People confronted with such decisions are naturally vulnerable: emotionally, socially, economically. They have hope for safety and for a better life. But thhe act of leaving or staying often involves loss: of home, of identity, of community, of a previous way of life. With this series I prompt you to consider: what would it be like to face this question; to live in a state of uncertain decision? Historically, Senegalese people have had a strong spirit of mobility and wanderlust. These days, the country offers few job opportunities. The desire to go abroad is tempting. Many young Senegalese ask themselves, 'Should I stay, or should I go?'.  Together with journalist Janine Meijer and a grant from Fonds Pascal Decroos, we went to Senegal to conduct research on the field.

The project was published in different media because of the political as well as the artistic character of the series:

De Standaard newspaper, Apache, Shoot magazine
